Low Carbon Meeting

DRARA Environment Action Group are holding the third of our public meetings on THURSDAY 25TH MARCH at RESTORE CAFE, MANZIL WAY, 7.30 – 9 PM. This time, people are coming from Low Carbon Wolvercote to tell us about how they set up their group and what they are up to now. They have been very successful in establishing a farmers market, solar panels on the school, community orchards and lots of socialising. Come along and find out more.

OxClean and Freecycling

Saturday 6th March. OX-CLEAN 10 – 12 am. All over Oxford groups of people are getting together to clean up their area. Already a number of people in the DRARA area are planning to litter pick in Warneford Meadow and around the streets. If you would like to join them, meet entrance to Sinnet Court or Warneford Meadow (call Claire Ball tel 432647 for more details) . Alternatively, you could just tidy up your own front garden (if it needs it) and the street just in front of your house. If we all did that, it would make a big difference. Watch out for fliers coming your way with more details in the next few day.

Saturday 6th March. FREECYCLE Afternoon 1 – 4pm in the DRARA area. Put anything-you-no-longer-want-but-think-someone-else-might, out infront of your house with a sign saying FREECYCLE – PLEASE HELP YOURSELF. Then wander around the streets and help yourself to anything you fancy from other houses with a similar notice. This is a great way of recycling things, cutting down on land fill and finding treasure all at the same time. Watch out for fliers coming your way with more details in the next few day.

Sunday 7th March. East Oxford Giveaway Day. On a similar theme, the rest of East Oxford are doing the same. So why not wander around the streets between Howard and St Clements and see what you can find.

Coming along pronto are the freecycle and Ox clean event happening at the beginning of March so it would be good to chat those through plus the other plans for the year…

Vivaldi in Bartlemas Chapel

Edward Higginbottom of New College has agreed to conduct a DRARA fundraising concert in Bartlemas Chapel, following his wonderful revival of the St Bartholomew Ascension Day morning celebrations held earlier this year – and which we hope will become an annual event

The short concert (of less than an hour) will be a small scale Vivaldi Gloria with 6 or 7 singers, a string quartet plus oboe and trumpet – and will be preceded by a short instrumental piece. The instrumentalists are local – mostly residents of the DRARA area. The singers all have Oxford connections.

Because of the limited capacity of the Chapel, tickets are limited to 60 only and are priced at £25 to include wine and finger food in the Bartlemas Farmhouse barn opposite the chapel.

Annual General Meeting 8th October 2009, 7.30 p.m.

The DRARA AGM this year will be held on 8th October at 7.30 p.m. at the Church of Ss Mary and John on the Cowley Road.

Our speaker will be Dr Richard Tyler, Chairman of the National HMO Lobby. He will speak on the topic of Enhancing Communities and Studentification. As most DRARA residents live alongside houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), it will be really useful to learn of the experiences of residents in other university cities, and what is being done nationally to work more constructively with Councils, Universities and the police.

Guests will include local Councillors, neighbourhood police and Oxford Brookes University Community Liaison staff.

We will also be selecting new committee members, and electing a new Chair, as Peter Coggins is standing down at this AGM. If you would like to volunteer your services as a committee member, please let us know in advance of the meeting.

All residents of the DRARA area are welcome. Refreshments will be available.
