October Update for New Residents
October 12, 2007
If you are new to the Divinity Road area, welcome! I hope by now you have settled in, and started making friends with your neighbours. Divinity Road Area Residents’ Association (DRARA) works for the benefit of the whole community, and is committed to the peaceful enjoyment of the neighbourhood for all.
Rubbish collection
By now you will know that rubbish is collected on Wednesdays in the early morning. A full recycling system is now in operation. You should have a green box for glass and newspapers; a blue box for cardboard, other paper, and plastics; and a green bag for garden waste. Rubbish for landfill should be put in black sacks in the wheelie bin. Collections are fortnightly and if you want a reminder about this week’s collection, text “Wednesday” to 07786 200440. If you need more recycling containers, telephone 01865 252900 or email recycling@oxford.gov.uk. You can have more than one each of the blue and green boxes – just ask. And if you don’t want them to be stolen from your front garden, how about putting them in the back until collection day?
Street Litter and rats
We have a serious problem with late night revellers just tossing the remnants of takeaways, bottles and cans into gardens. Please can you take your rubbish home with you? It is horrible finding half eaten meals littering your front garden! And please don’t leave black sacks on the ground outside – we have a serious rat infestation in the area, and do not want to encourage them.
DRARA
DRARA is very active, and holds regular events. Members take responsibility for looking after the street flower beds; one member picks up litter every morning, and another runs the very useful website http://www.drara.org.uk. DRARA members are actively involved in discussions about the introduction of Residents Parking, and traffic and environmental issues. Please join DRARA if you are not already a member. Your support will be appreciated.
Parties
Please be aware that this is a residential area, with lots of families with young children, as well as older people. It is not an extension of either university, and it would be appreciated if all residents will consider others when holding a party. Music and loud noise should not continue after 11 p.m., alcohol may not be consumed on the street, and guests should be asked to leave quietly. If you have reason to complain about a neighbour’s noisy party, please contact the Oxford City Council Environmental Health Out-of-Hours hotline on 01865 742138 and the Police, either by dialling 999 in extreme circumstances, or 0845 850 5505, which is the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number.
