Southfield Road – hole in the road

August 26, 2009

On the late afternoon of 25th August, near the top of Southfield Road, a section of the road surface suddenly caved in.  It appeared, in the words of one resident, as if the road was the icing on the cake, but with no cake below!  Residents are not unnaturally concerned that the whole road is suffering from erosion and that the surface is generally unstable.  Council officers have reassured residents that they are investigating the cause of the problem, but meanwhile residents are enjoying a period of peace while Southfield Road is free of through traffic.

Local residents came out to have a look at the hole in the road.  Here are some photographs to show the extent of the damage (thanks to Mopsa English for the pictures).
