RUBBISH COLLECTION AND RECYCLING DAY IS TUESDAY -
DRARA AREA IS IN THE “RED” COLLECTION ZONE
DRARA is concerned about the environment. All households have been issued with green “wheelie bins”, into which all non-recyclable rubbish in black bin liners should be put. Wheelie bins will be emptied on alternate Tuesdays, early in the morning. It really helps the local streetscene if rubbish is put out for collection in the bins as late as possible the night before.
For recycling, every household has been issued with a Green Box, a Blue Box and a Green bag.
The Green Box is only for newspaper, magazines, office paper, tins and drink cans and glass bottles and jars (all rinsed) and will be emptied if it is left at the front of your property on the same day
as your wheelie bin.
On alternate Tuesdays, when your wheelie bin and Green Box are NOT being emptied, the other recyclables will be collected; the Blue Box is for all other papers, cardboard, directories, etc. plus plastic bottles (rinsed), and the Green Bag is for garden waste, clippings etc.
Collection dates can be checked online www.oxford.gov.uk/newwastecollections or by email recycling@oxford.gov.uk You can receive a regular text or email reminder telling you which containers to put out on your collection day so text “RED” to 07786 200424 or email “TUESDAY” to red@oxford.gov.uk
Other plastic containers like yogurt pots, and drinks cartons (Tetrapak) are not accepted, but they can be taken to the designated recycling bins behind Tesco on the Cowley Road
Non-household rubbish can be taken for recycling to the Redbridge Amenity Site off the Abingdon Road (open 7 days per week until 4.00 p.m.)
Large items like fridges, freezers, mattresses and furniture will be collected free by Oxford City Council if you call Cityworks on 01865 252900 - see http://www.oxford.gov.uk/environment/bulky-waste.cfm for further details.
RATS
Rats are becoming an increasing nuisance in Divinity Road, and other local streets. There have been reported sightings in wheelie bins, gardens, kitchens and even climbing wisteria on the front of the house. The Oxford City Council Environmental Health officers are making every effort to eradicate the source of the problem in the Manzil Way garden, where an irresponsible local resident was leaving large amounts of bread scattered on the grass. This practice has now stopped, but the rats have effectively colonised the area and it may take some time to dispose of the problem.
For help to dispose of rats on your property, please telephone the Environmental Health Department at Oxford City Council on 01865 252887
STREETSCENE - FLOWERS AND LITTER PICKING
DRARA members plant and maintain some of the square beds around the trees which the Council has planted up Divinity Road. And other members collect up litter from time to time. This is done on an entirely voluntary basis. So please help if you can! The Council has supplied DRARA with several litter picking tongs which are available on request - send a message via the “Get in Touch” button at the top of the page.
The City Council litter team clear the DRARA streets at least once per week. If your street is in need of urgent attention, you can contact their Streetscene Supervisor on 01865 252909 and request a special visit.
ABANDONED SHOPPING TROLLEYS
If you find an abandoned shopping trolley from Tesco in your street, or spot one in a neighbour’s garden, please contact Tesco customer services by emailing customer.service@tesco.co.uk with details of its location and they will arrange collection.
