Environmental Action

A small group of DRARA residents meet about once every six weeks to discuss ways of reducing their household’s carbon footprints.  We use various ways of finding out how to reduce the emission of climate change gases – from exchanging tips on the most effective forms of house insulation, or finding out about lifestyle changes that will lower energy demands.  We usually invite a speaker to our meetings and meet on a Thursday evening.  If you would like details of the next meeting, please email Claire Ball – claire.ball20@ntlworld.com, or Anna Eden – annaeden49@hotmail.com.

The group has signed up to imeasure’ This is an online database where we can enter gas and electricity readings (usually on a Sunday).  After two weeks you can see how much you’re spending and also how your energy use relates to other similar households and individuals.  It is easy to sign on and interesting to get advance warning of how much bills are going to be!

We also hold a list of people who ‘eco-renovated’ their properties, i.e. have made their homes substantially more energy-efficient.  This is both cheaper in gas and electricity costs and better for the environment.  If you would like to visit such an ‘eco-house’, please contact Claire Ball on Oxford 432647.  You are welcome to bring a small group of friends to visit with you.
