Some items of Brookes news

Age UK Oxfordshire has opened a charity shop at Oxford Brookes on the Headington Hill site, and is now looking for donations of household items, clothes, knick-knacks and books. Student volunteers are helping with the day-to-day running. Further volunteering roles will be available in areas such as recycling, designing and creating goods. As part of this project, art students will be making fashion items for the shop.

There is a fascinating project at Brookes to create the most energy efficient and low carbon retrofit of a house in Oxfordshire.

A kitchen garden competition was held by Oxford Brookes early in 2011 at the Wheatley campus. The student who won is travelling to Malawi with a couple of staff members, to help construct, dig and plant a sustainable kitchen garden which will make a real difference for many Malawian people.

The visit to Africa will also provide the opportunity to see in action a water play-pump funded by Brookes students and staff. This is as part of the charity The One Foundation’s One Difference campaign.
